Moon Machine "Aether"
Heavenly.
Spotify did its thing the other night. I was listening to Band of Horses’ live cover of “Showdown” for the umpteenth time, and it led me into a recommended track by a UK-based band I’d never heard of before: Moon Machine.
“Aether” has a dreamy, psychedelic quality—it’s some chill shit with dope harmonies and spaced-out, electric guitar instrumentation that has the potential to trigger a nirvanic, out-of-body experience. The title kind of nails it, as Aether in Greek mythology was the “primordial god of light and the bright, blue ether of the heavens.” I feel high just listening to this.
IP’S PICK OF THE DAY 3/26/26: Moon Machine “Aether”
Here’s the music video, which takes us on a trippy, retro-gaming journey into a virtual, pixelated world of wonder.
As I type this, “Aether”—which dropped a couple weeks ago—has 3,658 plays on Spotify. I’m pretty pumped about the discovery, although I am struggling to find more info about Moon Machine. They only have a few songs out, none of which tickled my fancy as much as “Aether.” But! I did find this pic of the band on a listing for an upcoming BBC Introducing… show they have in Southampton, for anyone who’s out in the UK and interested.
One more from the UK, on some Throwback Thursday shit. This Zero 7 song also has some laidback, psychedelic vibes and heaven-drenched harmonies. Shout to my bro Josh Boxer who put me on to this during an epic West Coast summer road trip back in 2006, the year it came out.
Updated Spotify playlist below. (I update it daily with each post if you haven’t figured that out yet.)
Peace!
